The Leshan Giant Buddha is a statue of Maitreya (a Bodhisattva generally represented as a very stout monk with a broad smile on his face and with his naked breast and paunch exposed to view) in sitting posture. It is the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world, which has been carved out of a cliff face by an 8th-century monk in southern Szechuan province. This famous Buddha is located at the convergence of three rivers: Min River, Dadu River, and Qingyi River; and faces the sacred Mount Emei. Begun in the year 713 during the Tang Dynasty, the statue was not completed until the year 803. The Leshan Giant Buddha stands about 71 meters (233 feet) high and has three meters (11 feet) long fingers on each of its enormous resting hands.

Reaching 3,767.19m (12,359.55ft) at the topmost point, it is the highest ancient palace in the world. Between the 3rd century BC and the 17th century AD, the great wall was built and rebuilt to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from the attacks of nomadic tribes from the north.

Originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C.), the majority of the existing wall were built during the Ming Dynasty. The best-known and best-preserved section of the Great Wall was built in the 14th through 17th centuries A.D. (1368-1644 AD).
